En juillet 2003 les Anglais se retirent du programme pour poursuivre leur programme national FRES( Future Rapide Effect System) qui doit remplace les blindes de la gamme CVR(T) et FV 432 Ceci ébranle le programme mais celui-ci est toutefois poursuivi. Le programme suit donc son cours ; Chaque industriels (anglais compris) reçoivent une commande de chacun de quatre prototypes et une pré commande de 200 véhicules Le premier prototype en version V C. I. est prêt en décembre 2002 en Allemagne alors que le prototype version PC construit par les hollandais n’est disponible qu’en octobre 2003
Les 12 prototypes sont soumis à de tests qui se terminent en 2006.
Entre temps un contrat est signé entre l’OCCAR et l’artec pour assurer la pérennité du programme qui porte sur un total de 400 véhicules qui doivent être livrés à partir de 2006
Pour l’ heure les besoins des la Bundeswehr estimés au début à 1000 véhicules sont ramenés à 272 véhicules alors que les Pays-Bas en commande 384
Le boxer doit remplacer les M.113 et les Fuchs dans l’armée allemande alors que l’armée hollandaise doit remplacer les YPR et M577
Par contre la version VCI n’est pas commandée par les Pays Bas qui lui préfèrent le CV 90 IFV les autres versions prévues sont une version spéciale sanitaire pour l’ Allemagne Schwere Geschütztes Sanistatskraftfarhzeug (SgSanKfz) . et 2 version pour les Hollandais Cargo C2 et Génie
Le Boxer
