A M C 35 ACG type 1 Restaured ( Saumur)
Can be seen in introduction that the french military engineers have built between 1920 and 1940 a lot of vehicles but few were a sucess. Why ? bad doctrines of jobs, lack of industrial engines failed etc. .. The series of AMC in fact leave as well as R & H35 / 39
Only a few vehicles can be considered like a success, such as the S35 and Somua AMD 178 .In early 1930 the French army launches a market for a new armoured car for (AMC Auto Mitrailleuse Cavalerie). Renault wins the contract with the model 34 type Y. R. But thios model was unsatisfactory and Renault revert to work and therefore on March 7, 1936 he presented to the commission of Vincennes Committee a totally new vehicle compared to the AMR 34 (built in 17 copies) It an entirely new device that receives the name of AMC 35 Type 1 ACG. On March 9th 1936 the committee examine the documents and the material who is compared to the AMC 34. It is a tracked vehicle equipped with a turret APX 1 with the main armament of a cannon AC 25 mm and a 7.5mm machine gun . On March 10th 1936 tests starting , punctuated by numerous incidents mechanical. The tests are suspended in order to review the copy until November 17th 1936. Despite various shortcomings, fragility engine derived from an aircraft engine, the tank with a poor braiking was however commissioned but Renault could be provided same modifications. The production line is entrusted to the AM X. Which may not undertake the construction that a year and a half later. The first deliveries of series, therefore, on November 1st 1938, with the model in the series, however, is different from the prototype. Its turret tandem receives a barrel 47 mm anti-tank supplied to 96 shots. Remarkably this is the first two-seater turret on a French tank. 100 vehicles were built: 75 were delivered to the French Army and 25 to the Belgian Army. A prototype smke tank was built on the basis ACG1 but it was not acted on the prototype The tanks were excepted for the equipement of the fighter squadron of 3 armoured divisions, but this proved unreliable equipment must be stored since his delivery that was until March 1939. In June 1940 the equipment was out of warehouses to be delivered to the French Army in 1940 during the fighting of the campaign in France. It will equip “escadrons de marche” likesquadron Aubigier where the tank “groupe franc” tanks Neucheze with 7 ACG 1 fighter in Saumur. The vehicle, on display in the Museum of Saumur has certainly fought at Gennes in June 1940.
Technical Data
Manufacturer Renault The registration number of these tanks starts at number 91310. So the number given to char restored by the team from the Museum of Saumur would be wrong (see F Vauviliers the car into the uniform). Moreover, the scheme does not seem to camouflage the proper because they would have had a float in camouflage colors 2 and not 3
But that does not detract from the excellent work of restoration undertaken by the team of the Museum of Saumur see the vehicle condition before this restauration
