The Mercedes-Benz MRV 6.2, a further development of the LAPV 6.1-based project unveiled two years ago, was shown publicly for the first time at Eurosatory 2018.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the MRV 6.2 is now production-ready. The MRV 6.2 continues to be based on G-Class 461 series serial components, including the 3.428 m ladder frame chassis-cab chassis, which is uprated for the multirole vehicle (MRV) application.
The standard G300CDI engine and gearbox combination of a V-6 OM642DE30LA developing 185hp and 400 Nm torque, coupled to a W5A 580 5-speed automatic gearbox and VG 150E-3W 2-speed transfer case, is also retained for this latest version. The engine, which is capable of prolonged operation on military and lower grade fuels, can be rated at EURO 3 or 5 emissions compliance.
The main automotive difference between MRV 6.2 and serial production G-Class is the former’s CTIS-enabled portal axles. Its suspension is uprated to twin springs and shock-absorbers at each wheel station, and larger 18-inch rims shod with 305/80 R tyres replace the standard 17.5-inch rims and 235/75 R tyres.
In addition to contributing to a 6,200 kg gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), this axle, suspension, and wheel/tyre package also enhances all-terrain mobility, increasing ground clearance from 245 mm to 412 mm, and fresh water fording from 600 mm to 1 m. Approach, departure, and ramp angles are 40, 42, and 36 degrees respectively.
