Schwarzlosze 8mm M 07/12 Machine Gun – Austro-Hunagarian Empire
The "Centre d’interpretation de Suippes . Marne 14-18" presents in its collections a splendid machine-gun Schwarzlose 8mm M 07/12 manufactured in 1914.
It was with the pleasant authorization of the Centrer that we could photograph this weapon.
Invented in 1902, this machine-gun, produced initially by Steyr since 1905, is manufactured in various models until... 1950.
It was used in various calibres among many countries of which Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Czechoslovakia and Italy.
It was the first weapon of this type to use closed cylinder head operation and automatic rearmament by load combustion gases srung by the power of the cartridges.
But the initially high cost of its production delayed the mass production. His gun was cooled by water. The cylinder head and other moving parts required a permanent device of lubrication intended to avoid their rupture.
In 1912, modifications happened
Shortening length of the gun
Use of a system of adjustment of the gases pressure used for the operation of the weapon thus making possible the elimination of the lubrication system..
The night’s use of this machine-gun required the use of long conical flash-guard.
