Le « Centre d’interprétation de Suippes - Marne 14-18 » présente dans ses collections une magnifique mitrailleuse Schwarzlose 8mm M 07/12 fabriquée en 1914. C’est avec l’aimable autorisation de la préposée du centre que nous avons pu photographier cette arme.Inventée en 1902, cette mitrailleuse, produite initialement par Steyr dès 1905, est fabriquée en divers modèles jusqu’en … 1950. Elle a été utilisée en divers calibres par de nombreux pays dont la Suède, la Suisse, les Pays-Bas, la Tchécoslovaquie et l’Italie. Elle fut la première arme de ce type à utiliser le fonctionnement à culasse fermée et réarmement automatique par emprunt des gaz de combustion de la poudre des cartouches. Le coût initialement élevé de sa production a retardé la fabrication en série. Son canon fixe était refroidi par eau. La culasse et autres pièces mobiles nécessitaient un dispositif permanent de lubrification destiné à éviter leur rupture.
